Smuggling drugs: Sentence upheld

Manama : A Pakistani man sentenced to life in prison for attempting to smuggle drugs into Bahrain, had his verdict sustained by the High Criminal Appeals Court. The 39-year-old was also fined BD10,000.

The convict was caught with 63 capsules of heroine in his abdomen at the Bahrain International Airport.

Airport officials called him in when he was seen to be extremely fatigued and struggling to walk.

Upon inspection, no suspicious objects were found in his possession. However the capsules were found inside his body after he was X-rayed.

“I was asked to swallow 100 capsules by a man in my country, who asked me to deliver them to a man in Bahrain. I managed to take only 63,” he said.
