Bahrain Ambassador Highlights Gulf Cooperation and AI Partnerships

Bahrain’s Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Rashid Al Khalifa, highlighted the importance of Gulf cooperation, economic resilience and international partnerships during two high-level discussions held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah participated in a discussion titled “The Gulf in a Time of Conflict: Strategic Direction, Investment and Resilience,” organised by the Atlantic Council’s Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative in partnership with DLA Piper.
The session brought together Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Cabinet Member and Climate Envoy Adel bin Ahmed Al Jubeir, UAE Diplomatic Adviser to the President Dr. Anwar Gargash, and Qatar’s Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Majed Al Ansari.
The discussion examined strategic and economic developments in the Gulf amid current regional developments, including their impact on regional cooperation, capital flows, investment and long-term economic planning.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah said GCC countries had worked closely and intensively during the current crisis, noting broad coordination and cooperation at various levels.
He also stressed the importance of regional cooperation, trusted international partnerships, economic integration, infrastructure investment and resilient supply chains in strengthening security and stability in the Gulf while supporting continued development and prosperity.
In a separate high-level meeting titled “Seizing the AI Opportunity,” the ambassador discussed opportunities to expand strategic partnerships and accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah underscored the importance of continued cooperation among AI partners, building on the Joint Statement on the AI Opportunity Partnership, launched in June 2026 during the second Pax Silica summit in Washington.
He highlighted Bahrain’s efforts to develop its AI capabilities through a national framework supporting the responsible adoption of emerging technologies and aligned with regional regulatory frameworks, including the GCC Guiding Framework for AI Ethics.
The ambassador also welcomed participation in international initiatives such as the US AI Exports Program, along with investment opportunities in AI technologies and infrastructure.
He noted that government financing, technical support and private-sector investment can help strengthen local technology infrastructure and accelerate the sustainable adoption of artificial intelligence.
