Kingdom Highlights Pandemic Preparedness at UN Meeting
Health Minister Dr Jaleela bint Al Sayed Jawad Hasan took part in a high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response during the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The minister highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to international cooperation and solidarity in strengthening preparedness for pandemics and other public health emergencies, while supporting efforts to improve global health security.
She stressed that health emergencies can cross borders, making preparedness a shared responsibility that requires coordination, knowledge-sharing and the exchange of expertise between countries.
Dr Jaleela also highlighted the importance of investing in resilient health systems capable of identifying risks early, preparing for emerging threats and responding effectively when emergencies arise.
Reflecting on Bahrain’s experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, she said the Kingdom’s coordinated national response, rapid decision-making and cooperation between the public and private sectors, healthcare workers and the wider community strengthened its ability to manage the crisis.
Bahrain will continue to enhance preparedness by assessing health risks, updating emergency plans, supporting research and development and developing the capabilities of its healthcare workforce.
The minister also reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to the One Health approach and to international efforts aimed at preventing and responding to future pandemics while taking into account national laws, regulations and different social and cultural contexts.
