Bangkok Declared Disaster Zone amid Flooding

Bangkok: Thai capital Bangkok declared a disaster zone amid flooding after continuous heavy rainfall forced authorities to implement emergency measures across all 50 districts. 

Nearly 300 millimetres of relentless rain have battered the region since Thursday afternoon, severely flooding roads and swelling city canals. 

Governor Chadchart Sittipunt reported that eastern districts faced the heaviest impact, warning residents that local waterways are full and more rain is forecast.

Residents described the dire situation, noting that high water levels near canals have forced businesses to close and trapped individuals in their homes. 

While authorities work continuously to pump out the excess water, ongoing downpours complicate mitigation efforts.

To ensure public safety, officials strongly urged residents near canals to relocate their vehicles to higher ground and advised bedridden patients relying on critical medical equipment to seek temporary hospital stays. 

Officials remain vigilant, keeping in mind that widespread flooding across Thailand in 2011 killed more than 500 people and damaged millions of homes.
