Bahrain Leads Gulf Parliamentary Coordination

Ahmad Al-Salloom chairs a Gulf legislative coordination meeting held alongside the Asian Parliamentary Assembly committee meetings in Tajikistan.

 Bahrain chaired a coordination meeting of Gulf legislative councils on the sidelines of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly’s Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

MP Ahmed Sabah Al-Salloom, head of Bahrain’s parliamentary delegation and representative of the presidency, led the meeting, which focused on strengthening Gulf coordination and consultation during Asian Parliamentary Assembly meetings.

The Bahraini delegation included Shura Council member Dr Abdulaziz Hassan Abal, MP Bader Saleh Al-Tamimi, and Engineer Mohammed Ibrahim Al-Sisi Al-Bouainain, Secretary-General of the Council of Representatives and Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division.

The meeting reviewed issues of common interest, including mechanisms for enhancing coordination among Gulf legislative councils and key items on the committee’s agenda.

Participants discussed efforts to align Gulf positions and strengthen joint parliamentary action, particularly in Asian and international parliamentary forums.

The meeting also stressed continued cooperation among Gulf legislators to strengthen their collective participation and support common objectives of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.

The Standing Committee on Social and Cultural Affairs is scheduled to discuss several initiatives, including measures to promote cultural diversity and protect Asian cultural heritage, Asian integration through information and communications technology, cooperation in health justice, parliamentary efforts against corruption, and the role of women parliamentarians in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.

The agenda also includes promoting dialogue and harmony among the world’s religions and strengthening legal and legislative cooperation to combat the smuggling of cultural materials in Asia.
