Fighting Crime Without Borders

Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa represented Bahrain at the 15th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice in the UAE, joining roughly 5,000 officials, experts and delegates from 97 countries under the theme "Protecting People and the Planet and Achieving the 2030 Agenda in the Digital Age."

General Shaikh Rashid stressed that international cooperation is essential to counter cross-border crime and fast-evolving security threats. He said Bahrain continues to strengthen its global security mechanisms under the directives of King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the follow-up of HRH Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.

He highlighted the growing sophistication of organised crime and urged wider use of artificial intelligence and modern technology to address shared challenges. Cybercrime, he warned, spreads rapidly across borders and threatens critical systems, describing information security as a pillar of national sovereignty rather than a purely technical matter.

Shaikh Rashid praised the UAE's hosting of the conference and the leadership of Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan in advancing joint security efforts. He also met Malaysian Interior Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail to discuss expanding police cooperation and thanked Malaysia for hosting the 2026 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix.

A delegation of Interior Ministry officials accompanied the minister throughout the visit.
