Bahrain Highlights AI Readiness At 3G Meeting

Bahrain calls for wider technology access, digital investment and responsible AI governance at the 19th 3G ministerial meeting.

Bahrain highlighted the importance of technology access, digital infrastructure and responsible artificial intelligence governance during the 19th ministerial meeting of the Global Governance Group (3G) in New York.

Hatem Abdulhameed Hatem, Head of the Organisations Sector at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented Bahrain at the meeting, held under the theme “Building an AI-Ready State” on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In Bahrain’s intervention, Hatem stressed the role of the 3G in conveying the views of different countries to the Group of Twenty (G20), particularly on economic and technological issues.

He emphasised the need to enable countries to access technology and strengthen their capabilities, noting that maximizing AI requires investment in digital infrastructure, human capital, skills development and responsible governance.

Hatem also highlighted Bahrain’s initiatives in the field, including launching its national policy and ongoing work to develop a dedicated strategy, as well as adopting the Gulf Cooperation Council’s guiding charter on AI ethics.

He concluded by reaffirming Bahrain’s commitment to continued constructive cooperation with the 3G and G20 to support sustainable development and shared prosperity.
