Kingdom Pushes Digital Transformation in Tourism
Bahrain is continuing efforts to strengthen its tourism sector through digital transformation, sustainable development and new visitor experiences, Tourism Minister Fatima bint Jaafar Al Sairafi said.
In a statement marking World Tourism Day on September 27, the minister highlighted tourism’s contribution to economic and social development, cultural exchange and international connectivity.
This year’s World Tourism Day theme, “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism,” reflects the growing impact of technology on the global tourism industry.
Al Sairafi said Bahrain is expanding the use of digital tools and advanced technologies in line with the objectives of the Tourism Sector Strategy 2022–2026.
The Ministry of Tourism and Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), working with the private sector, are using artificial intelligence and other technologies to improve visitor services, make tourism information more accessible and develop interactive digital platforms showcasing destinations and attractions across the Kingdom.
The minister also stressed that technological development must go hand in hand with sustainability. Tourism businesses are being encouraged to adopt solutions that improve resource management and reduce environmental impact, alongside efforts to develop infrastructure, attract investment and host international events and exhibitions.
Bahrain’s cultural and historical heritage, beaches, entertainment facilities and diverse visitor experiences were highlighted as key assets for further tourism development.
Al Sairafi said future growth will require cooperation between government bodies, businesses and the wider community, while maintaining Bahrain’s national identity and protecting its cultural heritage.
She also praised workers across the tourism sector for their efforts to improve services and enhance the visitor experience.
