The Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) explored international cooperation opportunities in geospatial data infrastructure during its participation in specialised sessions organised by the Natural Resources Information Association (NRIA) in the United States.

The agency was represented by its Chief Executive Officer Dr Mohammed Ebrahim Al Aseeri, who highlighted the importance of geospatial data in supporting digital transformation and sustainable development.

The sessions brought together experts and specialists to discuss the role of national spatial data infrastructure in improving decision-making across key sectors, including urban planning, disaster management, climate response and national security.

Dr. Al Aseeri said the participation provided Bahrain with valuable insights into global practices for developing geospatial data systems, data-sharing standards and cooperation between government and private sector entities.

He noted that Bahrain is using satellite data and space imagery to support national development plans in line with Bahrain Economic Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The CEO also highlighted the Bahrain Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI), which provides a central platform for geospatial information serving public and private sector organisations.

“Geospatial data infrastructure is a pillar of the digital economy, and investing in it is an investment in Bahrain’s future,” said Dr. Al Aseeri.

The participation also opened opportunities for cooperation with US institutions and government entities specialising in geospatial technologies, supporting Bahrain’s digital transformation and growth of the space economy.
