‘Joint action needed to improve human rights’

Manama : Protecting peoples’ right to development and right to live peacefully and happily in a stable society should top the interests of the International community, urged Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

“The international conscience is currently facing a real challenge regarding its ability to protect those suffering from famine and displacement in many regions that are ravaged by violent conflicts. They have to respond more seriously to eliminate the causes of conflicts,” the Premier stressed.

In his message on the World Human Rights Day, which falls today, and held under the theme: “Stand up for someone’s human
rights today,” Prince Khalifa stressed that human rights should remain as a means for development, and should by no means be used as a tool to interfere in the domestic affairs of countries. 

HRH the Prime Minister called on the world to improve the conditions of people by stepping up joint international action and by focusing on achieving sustainable development.

The Prime Minister also affirmed that Bahrain will carry on its efforts to ensure a better future for all its citizens.

“The values of co-existence, tolerance, acceptance of others and equality have always been the fundamentals of the Bahraini society throughout history, which has entitled Bahrain to be a land that embraces all cultures and civilisations.

“Through this, the Kingdom has become a model for the consolidation of human rights, and in fostering an environment in which the citizens and residents live in love and harmony,” the Prime Minister said. 

The Premier also renewed Bahrain’s commitment to working with the international community in promoting peace, development and human rights protection all over the world.

The efforts undertaken by the UN, and its concerned agencies to consolidate human rights were also praised by Prince Khalifa.
