Muharraq Municipal Council has approved a proposal to establish a University of Bahrain academy in the governorate, aiming to improve access to higher education for local students.
The plan, submitted by third constituency councillor Abdulqader Mahmood, calls for allocating land for a university-run teaching facility in Muharraq.
Mahmood said the initiative responds to the governorate's large population and the growing number of school graduates who currently travel across Bahrain for university studies.
He added that the academy would ease travel burdens, reduce transport costs, and also serve students from other governorates, including the Capital Governorate.
The council said the project intends to widen educational opportunities and meet the rising demand for university placements in the area.
