Muharraq Municipal Council has called for dedicated sandy public beaches to ensure families have free access to the sea as new waterfront investment projects progress in the governorate.

Councillor Fadel Al Oud said investment projects such as Sama Bay are welcome, but insisted that portions of the coastline must remain open to the public.

He proposed reserving at least a 100-metre stretch of beach for free public use.

Officials from the Ministry of Municipalities and Agriculture briefed the council on several coastal development projects in Muharraq in partnership with Edamah.

Planned developments include seafront projects in Galali and Diyar Al Muharraq, while Sama Bay and other sites are already under development or review.

Council members also reiterated calls for seafront designs similar to Sama Bay while ensuring continued public access to coastal areas.
