The Bahrain Airport Company, which is managing and operating the Bahrain International Airport, has signed an agreement with the newly formed Free Trade Union of BAC workers to develop a detailed organisational structure for the negotiation mechanism between the two parties.

This step aims to strengthen the relations between the airport management and union members.

It allows the two parties to conduct meaningful negotiations to improve all issues related to the conditions of work and workers.

The agreement-signing ceremony was attended by BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohammed Yousef Al Binfalah, Free Trade Union Board of Directors Chairman Mohammed Abdul Rahman Al Jowder and a number of representatives from both sides.

Al Binfalah said that the BAC places a priority on establishing meaningful dialogue and interactive relationships with its employees and workers at all levels, and strives to ensure that all conditions within the workplace are facilitated in a manner that helps preserve their physical and mental health.

He noted that the agreement emphasises the company’s continued commitment to listening to the opinions of its employees and solving any problems that may encounter.

Al Binfalah explained that the new agreed organisational structure contributes to creating a bridge for mutual transparent communication and improving the existing partnership between the company and the union.

“The Free Trade Union of Bahrain Airport Company workers will have an important role in enhancing our relentless efforts to improve the work environment for the company’s employees,” said Al Binfalah.

“I welcome the appointment of two female members of the Board of Directors, which reflects the pivotal role that women play within our organisation and at the level of society as a whole.

There is no doubt that the dynamic nature of the Bahrain Airport Company requires special treatment on the part of the union.

In turn, the company will make every effort to support the association’s activities through official and administrative channels.

I wish the union every success in its endeavour to protect the interests of its members.”

Within the framework of the agreement, a negotiating team will be formed consisting of the committee representing the BAC, whose members will be appointed by Al Binfalah, as well as the trade union team whose members will be selected by the union to be on its board of directors. The said committee will act as a point of contact between the union representatives and the management of the BAC.

Al Jowder said: “The formation of trade unions is a legitimate right that is protected by the Trade Unions Law in accordance with the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Studies have proven that these unions have a tremendous positive impact on the well-being of employees, their compensation and the overall quality of life.

“Hence, this agreement provides more protection for the Bahrain Airport Company’s workers, as well as giving them a voice to express themselves and communicate their views to the management and cooperate with it to overcome the challenges they face.”

He added: “The union aims to lay the foundations for an integrated work environment for workers.

Therefore, all members of the Free Trade Union of Bahrain Airport Company Workers are ready to provide a helping hand in all matters that serve the interests of Bahrain International Airport employees.”

A meeting will be held once every three months to discuss topics and issues related to work, workers and working conditions.

Any decisions that will be taken will address the issues in the interest of the company and workers in the short and long term.
