Speaker stresses need to give priority to national interests

TDT | Manama

Council of Representatives Speaker Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal has stressed the importance of one-team work at the Parliament, which represents all segments of the Bahraini people. She underlined the need to place the interests of the nation and its citizens above everything else, in line with the sound directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.

The Speaker commended the tremendous efforts exerted by lawmakers throughout the previous parliamentary session, and their work during the parliamentary summer recess through committees, as well as their continuous interaction with citizens regarding their issues and needs.

The Speaker made the statements as she met yesterday First Deputy Speaker Abdulnabi Salman, Financial and Economic Committee chairman MP Ahmed Al Salloum, Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee chairman Mohammed Al Sisi Al Buainain, and Services Committee member MP Ahmed Al Ansari.

The meeting discussed the preparations for the upcoming parliamentary session, and the issues to be prioritised, including the post-coronavirus (COVID-19) phase. She emphasised that most of the legislation and laws developed or enacted by the Council of Representatives aim primarily to achieve the interests of the nation and the citizens, affirming that the continuous legislature-executive cooperation, coordination and complementarity are the essential prerequisites for attaining more legislative achievements that would contribute to enhancing Bahrain’s progress.

This is in light of the comprehensive development march spearheaded by HM King Hamad, the unwavering support of the government, led by His Royal Highness the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, and the constant support and follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister.

The Speaker gave directives to resume the work of parliamentary committee in order to continue discussing issues that interest the citizens, and called for adherence to the national fundamentals approved by the Constitution and the National Action Charter.
