TDT | Manama

The Ministry of Health could be conducting up to 2,300 random coronavirus (COVID-19) tests a day, according to a top health official. The ministry’s mobile units head Dr Taghreed Ajoor revealed yesterday that 300 to 400 random tests could be conducted in each of the Kingdom’s various areas daily.

The ministry’s random testing operations are part of the measures being undertaken to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The mobile units are fully equipped in accordance with internationally approved medical standards and the random testing is being done by a team of qualified staff, for the health and safety of all citizens and residents around Bahrain, the ministry said.

Dr Ajoor explained that the random tests aim to monitor COVID-19 cases with no symptoms in order to speed up their recovery and limit any potential spread they may cause. These campaigns also contribute to raising awareness by communicating with the public and answering their inquiries, while also stressing to all the importance of following precautionary measures such as social distancing and constant hand washing.

Dr Ajoor pointed out that their success was the result of the continuous efforts of Team Bahrain as whole, especially the contributions of the Interior Ministry and Civil Defence to preserve the health and safety of everyone. Random testing in Bahrain began in mid-April.
