ISB Sports Day: Vikram Sarabhai House wins championship

Vikram Sarabhai House has won the overall championship in the 39th Annual Sports Day 2017 of the Indian School Bahrain (ISB) which was held on Friday.  

Vikram Sarabhai House got 506 points while CV Raman House is the runners up with 323 points.  JC Bose House with 282 points bagged the third place while Aryabhata House got the fourth place with 249 points. 

Students from both the campuses (Riffa and Isa Town) participated in the colourful event that was conducted in the Isa Town campus from 8am to 2.30pm.  

Chief Guest Shaikha Noora bint Rahsid Al Khalifa inaugurated the sports day in the presence of ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan, Vice Chairman Muhammed Iqbal, Assistant General Secretary Dr CG Manoj Kumar, EC Member (Transport) Bupinder Singh, Saji Antony (IT), Khursheed Alam (Academics), Jayafar Maidani (Sports), Saji Markose (Facilities and Maintenance), Principal VR Palaniswamy, Riffa Campus Principal Sudhir Krishnan, Staff Representative Priya Laji, Vice Principals, teachers, students and parents.

Earlier ISB Principal VR Palaniswamy welcomed the gathering.  ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan, who declared the meet open, gave presidential address in which he reinstated the Indian School’s commitment to the development of sports and games which is integral to the overall development of the students personality. 

EC Member Sports Jayafar Maidani presented the annual sports report in which he highlighted the meritorious achievements of the school in sports arena.  EC Members Bhupinder Singh and Saji Antony gave felicitation address.  Physical Education HOD Saikat Sarkar gave vote of thanks.

ISB student Sanjay Jaimy, who won gold medal in the CBSE National Badminton Championship, was honoured by the school. Chief Guest Shaikha Noora bint Rahsid Al Khalifa presented a memento to the winner. Prince S Natarajan presented overall champions trophy to the winning house. 

Earlier the school sports secretary Nihal Mohammed handed over the Olympic Torch to ISB Chairman Prince S Natarajan who lit the lamp.

The opening ceremony was a colourful event with march past to the accompaniment of the school band, Bharat Scouts and Guides and state wise processions and displays which brought forth the spirit of different Indian states.   The event was witnessed by a large number of students and the parents.

ISB had conducted more than 100 events during the past one month and almost 2860 students participated in the heats. It was spread over Saturdays so as not to miss regular Saturdays.

More than 600 medals and trophies were distributed to the winners. Tiny tots from Riffa campus performed yoga display, group dance and aerobics which captivated the spectators.
