Tony Water’s animal rescue centre in dire need of funds

ManamaTony Water’s Animal Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre is currently facing a crisis due to lack of funds to buy food for the animals.

The centre, which is home to 450 animals, is in dire need of funds to buy food for the animals there. Waters, also known as ‘Tony the Dogfather’ said he has been running out of funds since the past month. Speaking to DT News he explained that since many of his supporters are on holidays, fundraising activities are not being organized.

“We have had Eid holidays and Ramadan and many have left for vacation. The summer months are particularly difficult for us because it is the vacation season and so we are lacking the support that we usually get during other months. We have not had any fundraising activities recently and may not have any in the summer months so we are dependent on direct donations,” he said. “The monthly expense of running this place is BD5000 so without fundraisers it is quite difficult,” he added.

“Currently there are 450 animals, of them 35 are missing limbs. The animals that are handicapped require more attention and care,” he said, adding: “Anyone can donate money or come forward with food for the animals, anything is appreciated.” Waters is currently undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with advanced liver and colon cancer. His daughter Sarah organized an online fundraiser to pay for his treatment. “My goal is to get better to continue taking care of the animals. I don’t mind anything else but being able to take care of the animals is my priority. I don’t expect my treatment to impact my work at the centre, I will continue whatever I am doing. Right now I am on crutches because I broke my leg, so that’s another challenge,” he said.
