Child hurt while ‘playing’ with fire

ManamaA group of eight children, who were playing with fire at a hill near Al Muaskar highway in Riffa, had their outing cut-short after one of them suffered burn injuries.

The child, around 10 years old, fell off a hill after he was burnt by a flare-up from a fire which was ‘lit for fun’, according to sources.

Eye witnesses told DT News that the children were seen climbing the hill on Friday afternoon. The mishap occurred around 5:30 pm, two hours after they lit the fire.

“The hill is a bit isolated from the park, so the children went unnoticed despite the presence of large number of people. Nobody noticed the fire since it was on the other side of the hill,” a source told DT News. “He caught fire on his back and hair. As he was running horrified, he tripped and fell off the hill onto the rocks below.”

Eyewitnesses said that the child was seen crying in pain, but the extent of his injuries is not known. “The injuries did not look severe,” the source informed.

“A group of Bahraini youngsters saw the incident and rushed to help. They called the ambulance and also contacted his family. Then police came and took necessary measures,” he added.

“It looked to me like a first degree burn. The injury was made worse because of the fall. He bounced off the wall before landing at the mid-point of the hill,” said Irfan, who was one of the men, who rushed to help the victim.
