Ramadan: Bahrain ministry hold meet with traders

Manama  : With a view to implementing the follow up directives of Prime Minister HRH Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa regarding the commercial sector preparations for the Holy Month of Ramadan, Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry Undersecretary Nader Khalil Almoayyed held a meeting with food traders and major hypermarkets officials here yesterday. The meeting was aimed at providing citizen’s needs of goods in the markets of the Kingdom and reviewing market’s readiness to receive the Holy Month of Ramadan.  

Chairing last week’s Cabinet meeting, HRH Premier gave directives to ensure basic commodities at affordable prices.

During yesterday’s meeting, officials of major shopping stores confirmed the availability of food commodities and sufficient for more than three months with stable prices. Besides, they informed that various promotional campaigns will continue until the end of Ramadan at competitive prices. 

Moreover, one of the fruits and vegetables suppliers confirmed that the import of fruits and vegetables will gradually increase from the first day of June to meet the expected demand,  which reach more than 3,500 tons per day. They will be imported from various countries such as Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey, India, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Africa and others.

Regarding meat, General Manager of Bahrain Livestock Company Blair Brice said they would intensify efforts to meet the expected meat demand, stressing company’s readiness in this matter. Bahrain Livestock Company and Delmon Poultry will supply the market with products from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, France, Brazil and other food and meat-exporting countries. Bahrain Flour Mills Company will meet the needs of the market and supply more than 685 traditional bakeries and 74 modern ones with daily supplies of subsidised flour.
