Heritage Sites Draw Nearly 394,000 Visits
Bahrain Fort drew nearly two-thirds of all visits to the kingdom’s state-run cultural and heritage sites in the first eight months of 2026, as the overall count neared 394,000.
Figures from the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities show 393,536 visits were made between January and August, with the fort taking 246,409 of them, about 63 pc of the total.
The Tree of Life and its visitor centre came a distant second with 64,561 visits, while Bahrain National Museum drew 37,020.
Foreign visitors made up the largest group, with 187,567 visits. Bahrainis accounted for 99,099, while tourist agencies recorded 59,681.
Arab visitors made 17,324 visits and GCC nationals 15,877. Organised groups accounted for 6,918, followed by private schools with 4,054 and nurseries with 1,123.
Archaeological sites were by far the biggest draw, recording 256,813 visits. Museums took 42,153, Pearling Path sites 11,641, forts 2,839 and handicraft sites 2,537.
August brought a small rebound after July’s dip. Visits rose by 818, or about 5.3 pc, from 15,496 in July to 16,314.
Bahrain Fort again led the field, drawing 9,505 visitors during the month. Of those, 4,487 were foreigners and 4,304 Bahrainis, with GCC visitors accounting for 559 and Arab visitors 123.
Bahrain National Museum came next with 2,386 visits, followed by the Tree of Life and its visitor centre with 1,854. The Cultural Hall drew 794 and Bu Maher 447.
The Arts Centre recorded 330 visits, the Khalifiyah Library 247, Al Jasra Crafts Centre 215, Saar Settlement 212 and the Bahrain Fort Site Museum 199.
Across the eight-month period, Bu Maher ranked fourth with 8,472 visits, ahead of the Cultural Hall on 6,637. Majlis Siyadi drew 4,271 and the Pearling Path Visitor Centre 4,209.
The Bahrain Fort Site Museum received 3,894 visits, the Arts Centre 3,029 and Shaikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort 2,839.
Al Jasra Crafts Centre recorded 1,851 visits, the Khalifiyah Library 1,652, Al Jasra House 1,487 and Al Jalahma House 1,417.
The Post Office Museum drew 1,239 visitors, Saar Settlement 951 and Badr Ghulum House and Turabi House 854. Fakhro House received 799.
Smaller sites included Basket Weavers’ House with 440 visits, A’ali Burial Mounds with 387, Khamis Mosque and its visitor centre with 334, the Barbar Temples with 260 and Bani Jamra Weaving with 246.
Bahrain National Theatre recorded 173 visits, while the Al Ghous House had 47, Al Alawi House 44 and the Bab Al Bahrain Information Centre 14.
January was the busiest month by far, with 167,765 visits, followed by 115,817 in February.
The tally fell to 46 in March before climbing to 21,761 in April, 29,472 in May and 26,865 in June. It then dropped to 15,496 in July before edging up to 16,314 in August.
