Bahrain Space Agency joins global drive for AI-powered climate innovation
The Bahrain Space Agency (BSA) took part in the AI Innovation Factory for Climate 2025, a global initiative organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in partnership with over 50 international organizations, spotlighting artificial intelligence (AI) solutions designed to address the world’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Aseeri, Chief Executive of the Bahrain Space Agency, represented the Kingdom during the event, which featured two key sessions where startups from around the world presented AI-driven innovations tackling issues such as emissions tracking, climate change monitoring, and environmental sustainability.
Speaking during the sessions, Dr. Al Aseeri emphasized that the initiative offers “an exceptional opportunity to explore the latest advancements in harnessing artificial intelligence to confront climate challenges,” aligning closely with Bahrain’s ongoing efforts to leverage space technologies for environmental sustainability.
He further noted that the initiative’s focus on satellite data is directly tied to the agency’s mission, as AI applications increasingly rely on space-based observations to monitor ecosystems, detect emissions, and predict climate shifts. “By integrating satellite imagery with AI models, we can build smarter systems capable of anticipating and mitigating environmental impacts,” Dr. Al Aseeri said.
Dr. Al Aseeri added that participation in this global platform provides significant value to the Bahrain Space Agency’s future planning, helping shape new strategic partnerships with climate-tech startups and international experts. It also supports national efforts to enhance local expertise in AI applications for space data, strengthening Bahrain’s capabilities in environmental and climate monitoring.
The AI Innovation Factory for Climate 2025 aims to identify and support groundbreaking AI-based solutions addressing sustainability and environmental issues while promoting inclusivity and cooperation among nations striving for a greener, smarter planet.
