Bahrain made a perfect start to the men's table tennis doubles competition at the 20th Asian Games yesterday, with both pairs securing straight-games victories at Sky Hall Toyota. Mohammed Alaalawi and Sayed Mahfoodh booked their place in the round of 32 with a commanding 3-0 win over Pakistan's Taha Bilal and Abdul Muhammad Khan.
The Bahrainis took the opening game 11-4 before maintaining control with an 11-6 victory in the second. They completed the sweep by taking the third 11-9. Mohamed Saleh and Rashid Sanad were equally convincing in their first-round encounter, needing just 12 minutes to dispatch Kyrgyzstan's Altai and Atai Kasymov 3-0.
Saleh and Sanad raced through the opening game 11-2 before adding 11-5 and 11-4 victories to seal their progression.
Attention turns to the men's singles competition today, with Saleh and Sanad both beginning their campaigns at 5.20am, Bahrain time.
Saleh faces Bangladesh's Ramhimlian Bawm, while Sanad takes on Pakistan's Bilal.
Both Bahrain doubles pairs are due back in action tomorrow, with the round of 32 scheduled to begin at 5am.
