Bahrain's 3x3 campaign ends

Bahrain's maiden Asian Games 3x3 basketball campaign came to an end after a 21-15 defeat to Qatar in their final Group C fixture in Aichi-Nagoya yesterday.

Coached by Bogdan Dragovic, the Bahrainis produced their strongest performance of the preliminary round at Nagoya's Kinjo Futo Station Square, but could not prevent a third successive defeat.

Qatar opened up a 10-4 advantage before Bahrain fought their way back into the contest, with Ismaeel Alansari helping cut the deficit to 11-9 with a two-pointer.

The nationals continued to apply pressure and pulled within a point at 14-13 through Naser Alanzoor before Qatar regained control late on.

Isa Jasim struck from two-point range to make it 17-15 with under two minutes remaining, but Qatar scored the final four points to seal victory.

Alansari led Bahrain with six points, while Jasim contributed five, Alanzoor three and Mohamed Qambar one.

Bahrain also outrebounded Qatar 18-15 but converted eight of their 25 attempts from the field.

The result left Dragovic's side winless in their three Group C matches, having previously lost 21-2 to Chinese Taipei and 14-10 to Indonesia.

The tournament marked the kingdom's first appearance in Asian Games 3x3 basketball.
