Bahrain Special Olympics Wins Seven Medals
The Bahrain Special Olympics delegation returned to the Kingdom on Wednesday, September 23, after securing seven medals in equestrian competitions at the 10th Special Olympics Regional Games for the Middle East and North Africa, held in Egypt from September 17 to 23, 2026.
The Bahraini team won three gold, three silver and one bronze medal, reflecting the athletes’ strong performances and growing competitive experience at the regional level.
Haider Saeed and Sham Al Ahmadi impressed in their first regional appearance. Saeed won gold in English Riding and gold in Trail and Control, along with a silver medal in Dressage.
Al Ahmadi secured gold in English Riding and two silver medals in Dressage and Trail and Control.
Ibrahim Al Ali added a bronze medal in English Riding to complete Bahrain’s medal tally in the equestrian events.
The delegation was headed by Bahrain Special Olympics National Director Wafika Jamal, assisted by Sports Director and Deputy Head of Delegation Redha Sabt. The technical team included coach Basel Al Jabal, coach Abrar Fakhr and therapist Khawla Al Busaiteen.
Bahrain also took part in the Regional Youth Leadership Programmes Conference for Special Olympics in the Middle East and North Africa, held under the theme “One Vision, One Voice.”
The Bahraini youth delegation included accompanying official Khulood Al Faiti, youth leader Hawra Abdulkarim and athlete Shahad Khalifa. Their participation highlighted the role of youth in leadership, inclusion and community engagement.
