Pakistan Confirms Air, Drone Strikes in Afghanistan

Islamabad: Pakistan confirmed that it conducted air and drone strikes at 10 locations in Afghanistan, following reports of an overnight explosion in the southern city of Kandahar.

Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan's Information Minister, said that the strikes targeted locations reportedly utilised for drone launch and storage. He stated that the action was conducted in response to drone incursions into Afghan territory, and that identifiable military targets were attacked.

A Kandahar resident reported hearing a jet before a large explosion, followed by a fire in the city centre. Afghan authorities have not yet given information regarding the reported incident.

The recent airstrikes have coincided with escalating tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan regarding cross-border militant activities. Pakistan has accused the Taliban administration of permitting militant groups, such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), to operate from Afghan land. Authorities in Afghanistan have denied these claims.

Earlier this week, Pakistan executed strikes in eastern Afghanistan. According to the United Nations, at least three civilians lost their lives, while Pakistan reported that 28 militants were killed.
