Kingdom Voices GCC Position on Regional Security at UN Human Rights Council
Dr. Abdullah Abdullatif Abdullah, Permanent Representative of Bahrain to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva, delivered a statement on behalf of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries during the general debate under Item 4 of the agenda of the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council.
The GCC countries addressed recent regional developments and expressed concern over threats to the security and stability of GCC states and the safety of civilians.
They stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain essential to overcoming the current crisis and safeguarding regional security and the safety of people.
The GCC also reaffirmed its commitment to the security and stability of its member states, highlighting the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, upholding international law and the UN Charter, and avoiding actions that could further escalate tensions.
The statement strongly condemned repeated attacks by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia, including missile and drone attacks targeting cities, civilian facilities and critical infrastructure.
It also condemned the latest attempted drone attack targeting Makkah, describing it as a serious violation of the sanctity of the holy sites and a threat to the safety of pilgrims, citizens and residents.
The GCC said the incident represented a serious escalation and a direct threat to Saudi Arabia’s security and regional stability.
