Alwatt completes strong skeet campaign

 Bahrain's Tammar Alwatt finished eighth in the men's skeet final at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya yesterday, bringing his three-day individual campaign to a close.

The 37-year-old reached the eight-man medal contest at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery after hitting 119 of 125 targets across five qualifying rounds.

Having surged to the top of the standings with a flawless 50 hits on the second day, Alwatt added 23 in his final round yesterday before securing seventh place in qualification following a shoot-off.

The Bahraini registered nine hits in the final to finish eighth, as Qatar's Rashid Al-Athba claimed gold with 34.

China's Lyu Jianlin took silver on 33, while Chinese Taipei's Lee Meng-Yuan completed the podium with 29.

In the women's competition, Maryam Hassan placed 20th in qualification after hitting 104 of 125 targets, with compatriot Maryam Alsam 25th on 97. China's Jiang Yiting went on to claim gold, ahead of Thailand's Isarapa Imprasertsuk and Kazakhstan's Assem Orynbay. Attention now turns to the mixed team event, where Alwatt and Hassan join forces for Bahrain today. Qualification begins at 4am, Bahrain time, with the final scheduled for 9am.
