Joint effort targets Hidd workers

Bangladeshi workers in Hidd received direct support and critical summer safety guidance on Thursday as the Bangladesh Embassy teamed up with Bahraini labour authorities and the World Health Organization to combat the risks of extreme heat.

The joint campaign, held in Hidd and attended by nearly 80 workers, focused on shielding labourers from dangerous summer temperatures, promoting hydration, and ensuring compliance with Bahrain’s midday work ban. The initiative was backed by the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board of Bangladesh and involved key players from Bahrain’s Ministry of Labour, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), and WHO Bahrain.

Protecting vulnerable workers

Representing H.E. the Ambassador Md. Rais Hasan Sarower, the Embassy’s Counsellor and Head of Chancery A .K.M. Mohiuddin Kayes thanked officials and urged workers to strictly follow Bahrain’s heat safety regulations. He stressed the importance of staying hydrated, wearing proper safety gear, and avoiding outdoor work during peak hours.

He also called for more frequent awareness drives and mobile consular services to reach vulnerable Bangladeshi workers across the Kingdom.

Midday ban reinforced

Ministry of Labour official Hussain M. Alhussaini reinforced the message, advising workers to use protective gear and report violations. He highlighted the annual midday ban on outdoor work from 12 noon to 4 pm between June 15th and September 15th. He encouraged workers to call the Ministry’s hotline (80008001) if companies breach the rule.

LMRA official Mohammed Alhashemi and WHO representative Rayan Butaita were also present, lending further weight to the collaborative outreach. The event concluded with the distribution of reusable water bottles and refreshments to help workers stay cool and energised.
