A short circuit in an outdoor fan triggered a blackout at Manama Market, the Capital Secretariat confirmed.
The fault was caused by a spike in humidity, which led to an electrical failure affecting lighting and ventilation in the shaded area outside the main market.
Technical crews restored power the same day, with emergency protocols activated immediately.
The Secretariat dismissed claims in a circulating video that the outage had lasted nearly two weeks, calling them inaccurate. Daily maintenance is ongoing, it stressed, and teams respond promptly to any reports.
The Secretariat said it will continue daily inspections to address issues early and ensure the market remains safe and functional for both shoppers and vendors.
