National Institution for Human Rights Holds 16th Session in Manama

The Board of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held its 16th session, chaired by Engineer Ali Ahmed Al-Darazi, with the participation of the board members and the attendance of the Secretary-General.
The meeting began with a review of the reports submitted by the heads of the institution’s permanent thematic committees regarding the past period. Mrs. Rooda Al-Aradi, Chairperson of the Complaints, Monitoring, and Follow-up Committee, presented a report on 54 cases that were monitored, including received complaints and legal assistance provided over the past three months, as well as communication with relevant authorities to resolve these issues.
Dr. Malallah Al-Hammadi, Chairman of the Committee for Visiting Detention Centers and Facilities, reviewed the activities of his committee, which included five announced visits and one unannounced visit to rehabilitation centers and care homes. These visits aimed to monitor human rights conditions and verify the availability of fundamental rights for individuals in these institutions.
Dr. Fawzia Al-Saleh, Chairperson of the Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms, provided a summary of the committee’s activities. The report included proposals to organize a series of human rights lectures for Ministry of Interior personnel and awareness programs for school students in English, along with several advisory opinions presented to the Shura Council.
Dr. Hooriya Al-Diri, Commissioner for Child Rights, shared a brief overview of her activities, which included receiving custody complaints, attending court sessions to ensure fair trials, and conducting lectures and workshops on the role and responsibilities of the Commissioner for Child Rights.
The session concluded with the review and approval of the Secretariat General’s report for the fourth quarter of 2024, covering the months of October, November, and December.
