Bahrain King delivers speech on the silver jubilee of HM’s accession

His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa delivered a speech, on the occasion of the silver jubilee of His Majesty’s accession.

Below is the text of speech:

In the name of Allah, the most gracious, the most merciful.

Praise be to Allah, and may blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah, Muhammad (PBUH), and upon all his family and companions.

May the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you, 

Today is the remembrance of the passing of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, may Allah have mercy on his soul. With his parting, twenty-five years ago, Bahrain lost a leader and a beloved father, a brother and a loyal friend for each individual of the people of his nation. His leadership and humanitarian legacy were the truest embodiment of the image of civilised Bahrain and its kind people, known for their loyalty, tolerance, and exceptional traits and qualities, which earned him, may he rest in peace, the love of his people and the respect of the whole world.

We have taken a vow upon ourselves, "as a son of Isa and guardian of his covenant", that the process of building and development will continue with the same national determination, to serve our dear Kingdom and to fulfil our responsibility. For this we have made, before Allah, a pledge to continue being an example of a civilized and an advanced nation, that takes pride in the abilities of its sons and daughters, proud of their devotion and determination to elevate the status of Bahrain and preserve every grain of its sand.

With this pledge, we have walked with you all, hand in hand, under the banner of the Kingdom of Bahrain, and we have managed, thanks to the almighty Allah, despite all difficulties and challenges, to put the interest and unity of our country above all else. And we will continue on this path, steadfast, moving forward with optimism and determination, in order to achieve what we aspire to for national advancement and to further realise our nation’s ambitions and hopes.

In such important moments engrained in our nation’s memory, our appreciation and pride are renewed by the true feelings of respect and genuine loyalty you have all shown to us. From this site, in this blessed mosque, our consultations commenced to formulate the National Action Charter, and we were able to achieve - together - this Bahraini achievement stemming from the depth of our cohesive society. It has become, praise be to Allah, a living reality, and a solid reference for our national journey.

We recall with great pride the historic position of the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain through their national consensus on the Charter, which came as a pledge of allegiance to a new era, whose banner we carried with strong faith, following in the footsteps of the man of renaissance, my father and the father of all, Isa bin Salman, and with him the generation of fathers and pioneers who have enriched national action throughout thier journey with diligent work and dedication.

As we have learned from the lives and careers of our early pioneers, Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, our Crown Prince and Prime Minister, continues with the same diligence and commitment to serve his country and its people, accompanied by our sons who assume their responsibilities with high national spirits within Team Bahrain, and we think of them - all of them - in their solidarity as a structure solidified by their adherence to the honour of serving their country, preserving its integrity, and defending its interests.

We are fully confident that the flag of the nation will remain flying high in the fields of glory, Allah willing, and under the protection of our national forces, both in the fields of defence and security, with their loyal and brave men and women, who keep their vows and are committed to what they have pledged before Allah. 

With Allah Almighty’s help, Bahrain’s progression is continuous and ongoing, and the duty to preserve it will remain a top priority and responsibility, to safeguard its advancement and progress as a Kingdom that upholds rights and freedoms, a bastion of security and coexistence, and a shining beacon of tolerance and cultural openness... Bahrain extends its hand in affection, support and cooperation to all its brothermen and friends, as it has promised throughout the ages.

Long live Bahrain, a nation of nobility and peace.
