New Indian Ambassador arrives today

India’s new Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain Piyush Srivastava is scheduled to arrive today. As reported by TDT in April, Ambassador Srivastava is to fill the position that has been left vacant for nearly six months, following the retirement of former Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha.

Ambassador Srivastava is an experienced diplomat. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1998 and was previously the joint-secretary (North) at India’s External Affairs Ministry before being appointed to come to Bahrain. He had served in Indian Embassies in Germany, Bhutan and Nepal, where he was Deputy Chief of Mission at the embassy in Kathmandu.

Ambassador Srivastava also served at the Indian High Commission in Ghana in various capacities. Before taking his post as joint-secretary (North) at India’s External Affairs Ministry in April of last year, he had served as joint-secretary (BIMSTEC and SAARC) at the same ministry, as well as joint-secretary in the Indian Council of World Affairs.

Ambassador Srivastava has a good command of Hindi, English and German languages. He holds a Bachelors of Technology and a Masters of Technology in Materials and Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kanpur. Ambassador Srivastava is married to Monika Srivastava and has a son.
