Last month ‘third hottest Sept recorded’ since 1902

Bahrain’s Meteorological Directorate (BMD) reported that the month of September 2019 goes on record as the third hottest September ever experienced in Bahrain since 1902. The mean temperature of the month was 34.4 C which is 2.0 C above the long-term normal for September and this goes on record as the third highest mean temperatures for the month of September since 1902 and exceeded by September 2017 with a record of 34.6 C and September 1998, 2015 and 2018 with a record of 34.5 C.

The mean maximum temperature of the month was 38.6 C which is 2.1 C above the longterm normal and this goes on record as the fifth highest mean maximum temperatures for the month of September since 1946 and exceeded by September 2017 with a record of 39.1 C, September 2018 with a record of 38.9 C, September 2015 with a record of 38.8 C and September 2001 and 2008 with a record of 38.7 C.

During the month Bahrain had six days with maximum temperature exceeding 40 C. The highest temperature recorded during the month was 42.7 C which occurred on the 1st September at Bahrain International Airport and this goes on as the ninth highest maximum temperature for the month of September since 1946 at Bahrain International Airport. This is same as 16th September 2015. The highest temperature recorded in Bahrain for September was 45.5 C occurred on 4th September 2013 at Bahrain International Airport.

The highest temperature recorded in the month of September at Bahrain International Circuit was 47.5 C on the 1st September and at Durrat Al-Bahrain was 45.2 C in the same day. The mean minimum temperature of the month was 31.2 C which is 2.6 C above the longterm normal and this goes on record as the third highest mean minimum temperatures for the month of September since 1946 and exceeded by September 2015 with a record of 31.5 C and September 2018 with a record of 31.4 C. The lowest temperature recorded was 29.4 C set on the 16th and 18th September at Bahrain International Airport, but 26.0 C was recorded on the 15th September at Durrat Al Bahrain. 

The mean relative humidity for September was 59 per cent whereas the mean maximum relative humidity was 77pc and the mean minimum relative humidity was 35pc. September 2019 was the second sunniest September since the sunshine records began in 1968 whereby the monthly total hour of sunshine recorded was 337.4 hours and exceeded by September 2014 with a record of 339.8 hours. The Northwesterly to Northerly winds accounted 52pc with gusts reaching 28 knots on the 7th September at Bahrain International Airport. Easterly winds accounted 15pc of the observation. Mist reported on the 18th September. Visibility dropped to 2,000 meters at Bahrain International Airport.
