As part of the final preparations for the Middle East Ironman 70.3 Championship Bahrain, which takes place from December 6 to 8, the organising committee of the championship announced yesterday that the venue of the event is all set to host the thousands of participants and spectators attending the anticipated international event this weekend.

Championship Director Ahmed Al Hajj confirmed that 85 per cent of the preparation works have been completed, explaining that a registration tent and an exhibition will be set up at the venue of the event, the race village. The event is being hosted under the patronage of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of HM the King for Charity and Youth Affairs, President of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee.

Al Hajj said the committee is keen on following the directives of HH Shaikh Nasser to ensure that the village is fully prepared to receive the participants, spectators and visitors of the championship, to reflect the Kingdom’s ability of hosting prestigious international sports events such as the Ironman 70.3.

He also thanked the members of the organising committee for their efforts throughout the recent period in preparing the village. Al Hajj said the total number of participants in the Ironman 70.3 main race, Ironkids and Irongirls have reached 3, 000 so far, adding that more are expected to register in the next few days. The registered racers will represent 84 countries and 200 racers will represent Bahrain in the championship. This will include Bahrain National Triathlon Team members Mohammed Al Ghais, Ali Janahi, Mohammed Bilal, Samira Al Bitar, May Al Hajji and Manal Fakhrawi.
