Crimea Declares Emergency as Ukrainian Strikes Disrupt Fuel Supplies

Moscow: Russian-installed authorities in Crimea have declared a state of emergency after a wave of Ukrainian attacks disrupted fuel supplies and electricity services across the annexed peninsula and parts of southern Russia.
The emergency measures, announced on Friday by Crimea's Moscow-backed administration, are intended to help authorities manage growing shortages and maintain essential services as Ukrainian strikes increasingly target logistics routes, oil facilities and military infrastructure.
The announcement came as Russia reported intercepting 660 Ukrainian drones overnight, one of the largest aerial attacks since the war began in 2022. The strikes reportedly included targets in Crimea and the Moscow region.
Russian President Vladimir Putin later acknowledged that attacks on energy infrastructure had created fuel shortages, although he said the situation remained manageable. Crimean officials described the fuel supply situation as particularly difficult and admitted that no air defence system could guarantee complete protection against such attacks.
Ukraine has intensified its long-range strikes against Russian military and energy targets, describing them as retaliation for Russia's continued attacks on Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Crimea had become a central target because of its role as a major military hub supporting Russia's war effort.
The campaign has also affected tourism in Crimea, a popular destination for Russian holidaymakers, with Ukrainian officials saying their operations were effectively 'closing the beach season' on the peninsula.
