Bahrain’s first cohort of government school students accepted into the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme say the initiative has reshaped their academic outlook and opened clearer pathways to university and global careers.

The programme, set to begin in September 2026, is being introduced by the Ministry of Education in partnership with the International Baccalaureate Organisation as part of efforts to integrate international education into selected public schools.

Students from schools across Bahrain said the programme has boosted their confidence and encouraged them to think beyond traditional academic limits. Many described it as a “turning point” that strengthens their ambition to pursue higher education abroad.

Others highlighted that self-confidence, determination, and family support played key roles in their successful admission to the programme.

Unlike conventional education, the IB Middle Years Programme focuses on inquiry-based learning, research, and critical thinking rather than memorisation. Students said this approach will allow them to explore subjects like science and mathematics in greater depth.

Several pupils also noted that the programme’s emphasis on independent learning and communication skills makes it more demanding but more rewarding.
