'I Will Return This Year': Sheikh Hasina Vows Comeback, Says Bangladesh Democracy Under Threat

Dhaka: Sheikh Hasina has announced that she will return to Bangladesh by the end of the year, promising to resume her political activities despite facing judicial proceedings and living outside the country since her fall from power.

Speaking virtually to supporters, Hasina stated that Bangladesh's democracy is under serious threat from the current temporary administration. She accused the government of destroying democratic institutions, restricting political freedoms, and targeting leaders and workers from her party, the Bangladesh Awami League.

Hasina asserted that the people of Bangladesh were being denied democratic rights and she promised to continue her political struggle until constitutional order and democracy were restored. She also urged her followers to remain unified and calm as she prepares to return.

The words come as Bangladesh remains politically split in the aftermath of last year's unrest and government change, with the interim administration coming under increasing criticism for governance, elections, and civil rights. Hasina's announcement is expected to exacerbate the country's already volatile political climate.
