Third edition of the Manama Entrepreneurship Week begins

Manama : The third edition of the Manama Entrepreneurship Week kick started yesterday at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain boosting efforts to encourage and strengthen entrepreneurial culture in the Kingdom.

Over 5000 participants are expected to benefit from the event that comes as part of a series of projects organised recently by the Capital Governorate and received an overwhelming response from the people and government.

The event is held under the slogan: “Towards Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”; the 17 objectives of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)”.

“This is an ideal platform that inspires young entrepreneurs and provides them with the inspiration to start their own projects and achieve their dreams,” said Governor of the Capital, Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa.

Over 14 workshops and symposiums are organised in parallel with this event led by 30 speakers from Bahrain, Kuwait, USA, Australia, Britain, Germany and the Federal Republic
of Russia.

According to a data released by the International Institute for Entrepreneurship and Development (IIED) in Washington, Bahrain occupies 29th position internationally and 23rd position in the Arab World in the Entrepreneurship and Development Index. “Bahrain also enjoys top spot in the Arab world in youth empowerment efforts,” said Shaikh Hisham quoting a study by the British Government in 2106 and stressing his interest in boosting youth empowerment efforts.

Tamkeen Chief Executive Dr Ebrahim M. Janahi told DT News, “Forums like these are extremely important to the Kingdom as they contribute towards the development of the entrepreneurial
sector.”

The forum, Dr Janahi said, will help Bahraini youth in expanding career opportunities, knowledge, and professional skills to enter the entrepreneurial sector.

“Since the beginning of Tamkeen until date, we were able to provide support to more than 45 thousand institutions from the private sector, which is equivalent to 54% of the active trade records in the Kingdom of Bahrain,” Dr Janahi added.

Organised by the Capital Governorate in association with Tamkeen and Ahli United Bank (AUB), the event will run until the 2nd of November 2017.
