Terror blast in Bahrain : Injured police officers out of danger

Manama : The condition of on-duty police officers, who were seriously injured in a ‘terrorist’ bomb attack on a bus in which they were travelling, has improved and is now out of danger, DT News has learnt.

The attack claimed by a “terrorist” group “Waad Allah” on Saturday killed a Bahraini policeman and injured eight others.

The wounded policemen sustained “serious to medium injuries”, the Interior Ministry in a statement said earlier.

The Ministry said that the attack was carried out using a remotely detonated home-made bomb on Khalifa Bin Salman Highway near Jidhafs.

Photographs of the attack released by the ministry showed shrapnel pelted the bus.

Sources confirmed to DT News that “the eight policemen are now out of danger and recovering at the Military Hospital in Riffa”.

The source also told DT News that the funeral of the martyred policeman, Salman Anjum, “will be held on Monday at Hunainiyah Cemetery in Riffa.”

‘Waad Allah’ said the attack was for avenging the terrorists killed in clashes with security forces while attempting to escape by sea to Iran earlier this year.

Authorities opened an investigation into the attack and police began a manhunt to find and arrest the assailants, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, several countries and top leaders come out to condemn the terror attack and to support the Bahraini government in its efforts to maintain the country’s security and stability as well as combating terrorism.

Official Spokesman of the Arab League (AL), Secretary General Mahmood Afifi, in a statement, stressed its full support to the Bahraini government and underscored its complete rejection of any attempts to intervene in Bahrain domestic affairs.

An official source from the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry underlined Kuwait’s support to Bahrain in all measures taken to preserve its security and stability, stressing that such criminal acts will never affect the Kingdom’s determination to confront terrorism and root it out.
