Bani Jamra blast: Trial of 29 begins

The trial of 29 suspects accused of detonating a home-made bomb started at the High Criminal Court.

The suspects, aged between 16 and 25, reportedly detonated the improvised explosive in Bani Jamra on September 12 last year, when police officers were also present at the site.

The accused were charged of attempting to murder police officers, setting off an explosive and possessing bombs and flammable devices.

However, only six of the accused are in police custody, as the rest are still at large and being tried in absentia.

Their trial has been adjourned until September 20. 

Arsonists’ trial adjourned

Meanwhile, the trial of five persons suspected of arson was adjourned until September 30.

The accused are implicated in a riot that broke out on September 21 last year. They also allegedly planted fake bombs and set tyres ablaze.
