Los Angeles: NASA's retired Space Shuttle Endeavour will start on a new mission in California as the centre of the Samuel Oschin Air and Space Centre at the California Science Centre, which is scheduled to open for the public on November 13.
The orbiter, which made 25 space missions between 1992 and 2011, has been put in a unique ready to launch vertical configuration, complete with an external fuel tank and twin solid rocket boosters. It is the world's only authentic, completely constructed space shuttle system, presented as if ready for launch.
The new 200,000 sq. ft museum will feature over 100 aerospace artefacts and interactive exhibits, offering visitors to learn about the history of NASA's Space Shuttle program, the science of reusable spacecraft, and the accomplishments of the astronauts who flew the missions.
Endeavour moved to Los Angeles in 2012 following its retirement and has since become one of the California Science Center's most popular attractions. Officials said the new museum will honour the shuttle's legacy while encouraging future generations to seek jobs in science, technology, and space exploration.
