Manama: Foreign ministers from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and senior US officials met in Bahrain on Thursday to discuss regional security, strategic cooperation and recent developments across the Middle East.
Opening the meeting, Bahrain's Foreign Minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, welcomed diplomatic efforts that have helped ease tensions in the region and stressed the need for continued dialogue among regional and international partners.
He praised the resumption of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz and described Oman's temporary maritime corridor for commercial vessels as an important step toward maintaining stability and protecting global trade routes.
Al Zayani also called on Iran to meet its international commitments, including preventing the development of nuclear weapons and ensuring freedom of navigation in international waters. He said long-term regional security depends on ending missile and drone attacks, halting support for armed groups and respecting the sovereignty of GCC countries.
The meeting also focused on broader regional issues, including support for stability in Syria and Lebanon, as well as ongoing efforts to promote peace, security and cooperation across the Middle East.
