ABU DHABI: The General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments at Dubai Police has officially launched a ‘World Cup’ tournament for inmates. Organized in collaboration with the Positive Spirit Council, the initiative aligns with the ongoing FIFA World Cup held in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The tournament sees the participation of 48 teams divided into 12 groups, highlighting the department's focus on global engagement.
Brigadier Salah Juma Buassiba, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, attended the launch alongside his deputy, Colonel Youssef Juma Karam. Brig. Buassiba emphasised that the facility serves as a beacon of education and culture.
He noted that the rehabilitation plan is based on the principle of ‘humanity before place,’ aiming to build inmates' self-confidence so they can successfully return to society.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Abdullah Al Obaidly, Director of the Inmates' Education and Training Department, stated that the tournament is part of a broader commitment to provide sports and recreational activities.
These programs are designed to channel inmates' energy positively, improving their physical, moral, and mental well-being while productively occupying their leisure time.
By participating in both local and international sports tournaments, Dubai Police continues its mission to reduce the fear of societal integration. Through such purposeful training, the department ensures that inmates gain the skills and confidence necessary to serve themselves and their communities after serving their sentences.
