Focus on women empowerment

Manama : Empowerment of Bahraini women was the key focus of an event organised by the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) here in the presence of Ambassadors to the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The event held in the presence of SCW General Secretary Dr Hala Al Ansari highlighted the achievements of Bahrain in its women empowerment drive.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Al Ansari said that the SCW has managed to expand its scope of work beyond the national borders.

“Best practices in the advancement of Bahraini women have started receiving the attention of Arab and European countries,” she said adding that the council has worked hard to open wider avenues for cooperation with all Arab organisations, institutions and bodies related to women’s issues.

She also highlighted the role of the United Nations and its specialised agencies in supporting and adopting the initiatives of Bahrain, citing the recent launch of HRH Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women Empowerment from the United Nations Headquarters in
New York.

“In an unprecedented step on the Arab level, Bahrain presented the Arab Group’s Manama Declaration at the opening session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women in New York last March,” she said.

This, according to Dr Al Ansari helped to coordinate the Arab position and identify regional priorities on women’s issues.

For their part, the ambassadors praised the importance of the SCW and expressed their admiration and appreciation of the gains made by Bahraini women under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the directives of the Wife of HM the King and SCW Chairwoman HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.
