Fancy number plate fetches BD360,000 at auction
Manama : Mazad conducted its first private vehicle number plates auction yesterday at Isa Sports City Hall in Riffa, attracting over 1500 participants.
High net worth individuals competed against each other while bidding for the fancy numbers.
The number 600000 was sold for BD360,000, which was the highest bid in the event. Other high-value sales include the number 600006, which was sold for BD150,000. Number 606060 was sold for BD146,000 and 600600 for BD97000.
Though the initial price was set at BD5000, all the number plates fetched a much bigger amount in the auction.
Jaffar, a spectator commented on the event saying, “It was a thrilling show because it was always difficult to predict which number plates would get the highest bids. For example, 606000 got BD43000 while 600600 got BD97000. That is a huge difference despite the similarity in the numbers. All of the numbers seemed to have fetched a good amount.”
Aman, a businessman who purchased the number plate 600006 for BD150,000 said his newest purchase will be “one of the best” number plates he owns.
“From today’s auction I felt that this number stood out the most and it will certainly be one of the best number plates that I currently own,” he said.
Santhosh, who was bidding on behalf of a Bahraini businessman, said that competition was very intense.
“We managed to get the number plate 600009 for BD58000 but the competition was very intense. There was a lot of excitement in the room and everyone seemed to have enjoyed it,” he said.
Organisers said that the buyers must complete the payment process within ten days, and upon completion of payment they will be provided with an official certificate of ownership and will have the freedom to use and/or assign the private number plates.
