Bahrain labour camp fire mishap: Five expats on the mend
Manama : Two days after the massive fire that ripped through an apartment in Buri, the five injured people are recuperating in the hospital. The fire erupted in the labour accommodation of the five Asian men, reportedly Bangladeshis, on Saturday had gutted all their belongings.
A huge tragedy was averted owing to the timely response by the Civil Defence, who arrived at the scene as soon as the fire started to spread. They rescued the five men and rushed them to hospital.
According to eyewitnesses, the residents suffered serious injuries on chest, hands and neck.
Confirming the incident, the Interior Ministry said: “Civil Defence extinguished a fire in a house in Buri and rescued the Asian residents, who were referred to the hospital for treatment.”
“I saw the smoke from a distance. The Civil Defence swiftly swung into action and put out the fire. They rushed the victims to hospital. The house was completely destroyed in the fire,” said a source.
“Their friends are extremely worried and anxious about them. They hope that they would recover fully and be able to lead a normal life,” he said, adding that the fire erupted due to a cylinder explosion.
Meanwhile, the authorities have not confirmed it. But the Interior Ministry stated that negligence by the residents had led to the fire accident.
“Initial details indicate that negligence was the reason behind the fire mishap,” it added.
