Bahrain Boosts Security Ties with WINEP Delegation

The head of Bahrain’s Public Security, Major General Tariq bin Hassan Al Hassan, held a high-level meeting today with a delegation from the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP), led by Mr. Jay Brenstein. The meeting focused on deepening cooperation and sharing expertise with specialized international institutions.

At the outset, Major General Al Hassan welcomed the delegation and provided an overview of Bahrain’s internal security landscape. He highlighted the ongoing development and modernization across the kingdom’s security sectors, attributing these achievements to the strong support and guidance of Minister of Interior, Lieutenant General His Excellency Sheikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa. This backing, he noted, remains a cornerstone for implementing strategic plans aimed at enhancing national security, stability, and operational readiness.

Major General Al Hassan emphasized the Ministry of Interior’s commitment to continuously developing policing systems through community partnerships and public engagement. He stressed the value of collaboration with international institutes, noting that exchanging knowledge and best practices significantly strengthens Bahrain’s security framework and enhances the professional skills of national personnel through training and capacity-building programs.

The meeting also highlighted Bahrain’s pioneering initiatives in criminal justice reform, including the implementation of alternative penal laws and the “Open Prisons” program. These initiatives reflect the kingdom’s modern and humane approach to justice, focusing on rehabilitating offenders and reintegrating them positively into society while maintaining public safety.

Discussions further explored potential areas of collaboration, coordination, and knowledge exchange between the Ministry of Interior and WINEP.

Mr. Jay Brenstein expressed his sincere appreciation for the warm reception, praising Bahrain’s progress as a reflection of a clear strategic vision and sustained efforts to enhance community security.
