The Labour Fund "Tamkeen" has announced a significant crackdown on abuse of its wage support programmes, revealing that over 237 violations were uncovered during more than 2,450 inspection visits conducted since the beginning of the year.

The fund has implemented a multi-pronged approach to strengthen oversight procedures, aiming to bolster the programme's efficiency and curb any potential misuse through illegal employment practices.

This proactive approach underscores Tamkeen's commitment to ensuring the integrity of its wage support programmes, safeguarding the program's effectiveness and promoting fair employment practices.

Tamkeen has emphasised in a statement a multi-pronged approach, including strengthening existing legal frameworks governing oversight and monitoring procedures, refining collaborative mechanisms with relevant authorities to ensure prompt action on identified cases of abuse, and granting a number of Tamkeen employees the authority of judicial officers to enable more effective enforcement.

The fund highlighted its commitment to developing new and robust oversight standards, stating that a new comprehensive plan has been launched to double inspection efforts.

This plan involves intensified inspections of both businesses and individuals receiving wage support, regular communication with beneficiaries to ensure compliance and address any concerns, increased coordination with the Ministry of Labour and other relevant entities to promptly address violations and suspicious activities, and the establishment of a dedicated hotline for individuals to report any suspected abuses.

The success of these enhanced measures, with the detection of over 237 violations in just over 2,450 inspections, demonstrates the effectiveness of the new oversight strategy and Tamkeen's commitment to combatting abuse within its programs.
