Man faces murder charges

Closing arguments will be heard on January 21 in the trial of a Bahraini man accused of beating to the death an 18-year-old girl on their first date. The man, aged 26, reportedly hit on the chest of the teenager, who is said to have been suffering from heart problems.

But he claimed that “he was only joking with her when smacked her chest.” The man was referred to a criminal court on charges of beating the teenager to death.

We met in a bus station as I didn’t have a driving licence. We boarded the bus and sat talking to each other. It developed into a banter and we began beating up each other in a friendly way,” the defendant told prosecutors.

The woman reportedly collapsed and some of the bus passengers tried to give her first aid, while the defendant pretended that he didn’t know her.

He later offered to take her to hospital and he hitchhiked a car. The girl, however, died at the hospital and the man was nabbed after a witness spotted him with the girl in the bus station.

Her family confirmed that the girl was having heart-related problems. The defendant was charged in connection with causing her death.
