India is celebrating 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav', marking the 75th year of Independence, amid patriotic fervour. A series of events are being organised across the country to mark the occasion.

Extending greetings on the occasion of the 75th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' will infuse new energy and new consciousness among the countrymen.

"Greetings to you all on Independence Day. May this year of the 'Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav' infuse new energy and new consciousness among the countrymen. Jai Hind!" tweeted PM Modi.

The Prime Minister on Sunday paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat before addressing the nation at the Red Fort in Delhi on the occasion of Independence Day. He also hoisted the Indian national flag on this historic day.

* The Prime Minister said, "I would like to begin by conveying greetings on this special occasion of Independence Day. This is a day to remember our great freedom fighters."

* PM Modi lauds personalities who have contributed to the freedom struggle of India.

* He thanks Covid warriors who have fought against the pandemic bravely. "Doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, sanitation workers, scientists and the citizens who were working with a sense of service - all those who devoted every moment to serve others in this period, deserve applause," the PM says.

* The Prime Minister has urged the nation to applaud the achievement of the athletes who have made India proud at the Tokyo Olympics. They have not only won our hearts but also inspired future generations, he said.

* "We can proudly say that the largest Covid-19 vaccination program is being run in India today. More than 54 crore people have received vaccine doses so far," PM Modi said at Red Fort.

* The PM said a decision has been taken to observe August 14 as Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, to honour the pain and sufferings faced by the people of India during the partition.

* Indians have fought against the pandemic with a lot of patience and we had many challenges but we worked with extraordinary pace in every area, he said on Sunday. It's a result of the strength of our industrialists & scientists, that today India doesn't need to depend on any other nation for vaccines, the PM said.

* As per the Prime Minister, today, the time has come in India's development journey when the country can take itself forward with new resolutions.

* 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayaas (Cooperation, development, trust and effort put by all )' is very important for the achievement of all our goals, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in his speech.

* Delimitation Commission has been constituted in Jammu and Kashmir and preparations are on for assembly elections in the future, he said during his speech.

* Besides caring about basic facilities, reservation for Dalits, backwards, tribals, economically weak sections of general category, the reservation was recently granted to OBCs, under all-India quota, in medical education. States have been granted the right to make their own OBC lists, the PM said.

* In past few years, facilities like road and electricity have reached villages, PM Modi said. Today, the optical fibre network is providing the power of data to villages, the internet is reaching there; digital entrepreneurs are getting ready in villages too, he said.

* In the coming years, we will have to increase the collective power of the small farmers of the country, the Prime Minister said on Sunday. "We have to give them new facilities. They must become the country's pride," he also said.

* "We have to work together for the next-generation infrastructure, world-class manufacturing, cutting innovations and new-age technology," PM Modi said during his Independence Day speech.

* Our mantra is 'Chhota kisan bane desh ki shaan', Modi said. "It's our dream. In years to come, we've to further increase the collective strength of small farmers of the country, we will have to provide them new facilities. 'Kisan rail' runs on more than 70 rail routes of the country today," the PM said.

* In the coming days, Modi said, PM Gati Shakti Plan, a 100 lakh crore national infrastructure master plan will be launched, which will make a foundation for holistic infrastructure and give an integrated pathway to our economy.

* Modi on Sunday also announced that 75 Vande Bharat trains will connect every corner of India in 75 weeks of Amrit Mahotsav of Independence.

* The Prime Minister also claimed that the world is a witness to how India is writing a new chapter of governance.

* "Today, we have to pledge to make India energy independent before completing 100 years of independence. India has moved towards electric mobility and work is underway on 100% electrification of Indian Railways with the aim to becoming net-zero carbon emitter by the year 2030," the PM said at the Red Fort.

* The Prime Minister said it's a matter of pride that India's daughters are giving a splendid performance - be it Boards examinations or Olympics.

* Modi also announced the National Hydrogen Mission in view of climate change. He stressed the importance of making India a hub for the production and export of Green Hydrogen.

* "By conducting surgical strikes and airstrikes, we have given a message of the emergence of a new India to our enemies. It also conveys that India can take tough decisions," the Prime Minister said in his speech delivered from the ramparts of Red Fort on Independence Day.
